Greetings Jackson-Reed Community,
We hope everyone had an enjoyable Spring Break and maximized time with family and friends. As we enter this final phase of the school year, I’d like to focus on two main topics in this week’s message: attendance and enrollment.
Our current In Seat Attendance (ISA) rate is 89.9%, one percent higher than our ISA this time last school year. Showing up to school every day may seem like a small task, but it has a major effect on student learning. When our Tigers attend school regularly, they:
- Build stronger relationships with teachers and classmates,
- Stay on top of assignments, reducing stress and anxiety,
- Develop a sense of responsibility, and
- Are more likely to meet their academic goals
We understand that some absences can’t be avoided, and we encourage everyone to prioritize attendance as we close out the year. Please contact a member of our attendance team if you have questions or need support.
Regarding enrollment, it’s enrollment season, and many of our families have already secured their seats for the next school year! We currently have 184 students enrolled for the next school year, which is 10.6% percent of our 1,732 projected enrollment. I want to thank you if you’ve already completed enrollment. If you haven’t, I’d like to invite you to our upcoming Enrollment Saturday event on April 26th at 9 am. Attendees will have an opportunity to receive one-on-one enrollment assistance, and refreshments and learn more about our plans for the next school year.

News This Week
2025-2026 SY Enrollment NOW OPEN!
Parent/Guardians can now submit enrollment forms and proof of residency for the upcoming 2025-26 school year! Go to the enrolldcps.dc.gov website and follow the links to enroll. If you have issues with online enrollment, paper packets will be available at the school. Our school-wide goal is to have all students reenrolled by May 1st. Families that submit their forms during the month of April will be given priority during course request and class scheduling.
Here's what's in store for you:
- Principal’s Coffee: Start your day off right with a warm cup of coffee, a donut, and a chat with our principal.
- Enrollment: Secure your child's place at Jackson Reed High School. Our Enrollment team will guide you through the enrollment process.
- School Tour: Take a guided tour of our campus facilities and see firsthand the innovative learning environments we offer.
- NAF Academies: Discover our specialized NAF Academies and how they prepare students for success in various industries.
- Athletics: Explore our sports programs and learn about the opportunities for your child to excel both academically and athletically.
The Local School Advisory Team (LSAT) meets monthly to advise the principal on such matters as the Comprehensive School Plan, the annual school budget, strategic priorities, curriculum, school culture, and family engagement. The LSAT may also advocate on behalf of Jackson-Reed on city-wide educational issues. Participating in the LSAT is a great way to be involved with setting and monitoring school goals and priorities.
The LSAT is comprised of:
- four parent representatives elected by the parent body;
- four teachers;
- a Washington Teachers Union representative;
- a non-instructional school staff representative;
- a parent representing the PTSO;
- a student;
- and a community representative.
Parent representative candidates must be a parent or guardian of a currently enrolled student. The LSAT meets monthly. This week grade level teams will meet for their Town Halls on Wed, Apr 23, and Thu Apr 24. Students will be dismissed over the loudspeaker at the following times.
- Freshmen: Wed Apr 23, 11:00 am
- Sophomores: Wed Apr 23, 2:45 pm
- Juniors: Thu Apr 24, 2:45 pm
- Seniors: Thu Apr 24, 11:00 am
Family Town Halls
The following grade levels will host virtual Town Halls for families. The Microsoft TEAMS link to access the meeting will be sent via email/text 2-hours before the event.
- Sophomores (Class of 2027) Family Virtual Meeting: Wed Apr 23, 5:30-6:30 pm
- Seniors (Class of 2025) Family Virtual Meeting: Thu Apr 24, 7:00 pm- 8:00 pm
From Monday, May 5 through Friday, May 16, Jackson-Reed High School will administer AP exams according to the College Board schedule here.
- NEW: The Bluebook testing platform will not allow students to autofill their email address and password for their College Board account. Students must know their email address and password to log in. If they do not know these, they will likely not be able to take their AP exam that day. Students who need help accessing their College Board account information can call AP customer service for students at 888.225.5427.
- Students with Two Exams on the Same Date/Time: Students who have two exams on the same date/time should come to see Ms. Levenson in the College and Career Center, Room 108A, to change one exam to the late-testing administration to be held Monday, May 19 through Friday, May 23.
- If you have questions about AP exams, see Ms. Levenson in the College and Career Center, Room 108A or email her. If your questions are about AP exam accommodations, see Ms. Rogers in the main office or email her.
The time to purchase Senior Ads is here! Senior Ads are the Beacon's main source of funding and a great way to celebrate your graduating Senior. Senior Ads are printed with our final edition which will be handed out on the last day of school for Seniors and at graduation. They include a message and photos to celebrate your graduating senior!

Opportunities
Bridging the Dream Scholarship Program
The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) and The Sallie Mae Fund are proud to offer financial assistance to forty (40) current outstanding high school seniors who plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two or four year college, university, or continuous education program. Scholars who are selected will receive a scholarship up to $10,000 for the 2025-2026 academic school year. The total eligible scholarship amount will be allocated in two installments: one during the Fall 2025 semester and the second during the Spring 2026 semester (which can only be applied to verifiable costs associated with average tuition and usual fees).
Eligibility Requirements:
Be currently enrolled as a high school senior for the 2024-2025 academic year
Plan to enroll full-time as a first-time, incoming freshman during the 2025-2026 academic year
Plan to be enrolled at an accredited post-secondary institution or continuous education programopens in a new window during the 2025-2026 academic year:
Two-year Schools
Four-year Schools
Vocational/Technical certificate/certification program
Current cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher
Must be Pell-Grant eligible
Be a U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident with a valid permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551
Must be able to demonstrate leadership abilities
Must be able to demonstrate good moral character in all aspects of your life, including personal, professional, educational, in your community, and online presence

- What unique perspective, passion, or curiosity drives your academic interests? How do you envision it shaping your future as a scholar and leader in your field?
