Off-Campus Lunch Policy

Juniors and seniors, based on their academic performance and May 2024 DC CAPE participation, will be able to earn off-campus lunch privileges for all eligible terms. Sophomores will be able to earn off-campus lunch privileges for the 4th term only. The following are the requirements to qualify for off-campus lunch:

Qualifications for Seniors

  • Must be a senior (have earned at least 18 credits and passed English 11) and a minimum 2.5 GPA on the most recent report card.
  • Must have a permission form signed by applicant’s parent/guardian with final online parent approval.

Qualifications for Juniors

  • Must be a junior (have earned at least 12 credits and passed English 10)
  • Must earn honor roll during the previous term (3.0 GPA or better) OR demonstrated a .5 increase in their GPA from previous term average
  • Must have completed all required DC CAPE exams from the previous school year.
  • Must have a permission form signed by the applicant’s parent/guardian with a final online parent verification.

Qualifications for Sophomores

Not applicable until 4th term

  • Must be a sophomore (have earned at least 6 credits and passed English 9)
  • Must have earned honor roll ALL THREE terms prior to the 4th term
  • Must have completed all required DC CAPE assessments for the current year.
  • Must have permission form signed by applicant’s parent/guardian with a final online parent verification.
  • Must meet attendance requirements during Terms 1-3.

Procedures

  • Once you apply for off-campus lunch and are granted permission to participate in the program, you only have to complete one application for the yearIf you do not meet the requirements for off-campus lunch at the end of a term, you will lose your off-campus lunch privileges until your term average meets the requirements.  Those students whose academic standing changes after the conclusion of a term do not need to re-apply, but parents may need to verify online. Permission will not be granted to students without final parent/guardian online verification.
  • One Card ID Highly Recommended.   We strongly request that you USE YOUR DC One Card ID FOR OFF-CAMPUS LUNCH! The lines can be long and scanning the card is faster than entering an ID number.
  • All students must be re-screened at security when entering the building.
  • They must re-enter the school by 12:30 pm after lunch.
  • They may only go to businesses one block to the north and one block to the south on Wisconsin Avenue
  • They must cross at the cross walks and obey all pedestrian signals

Revocation of Off-Campus Lunch Privileges

  • Privilege revoked for a designated period of time if a student:
    • Fails to return or returns late for the class (normally period 03 or PD 04) after STEP (one unexcused absence = removal for one term; 3 tardies = removal two weeks; 4 tardies = removal for one term)
    • Is no longer eligible for off-camps lunch due to the student’s term GPA. However the privilege will be re-instated if student becomes eligible at the end of a subsequent term.
    • Is suspended at any point during the term
  • Privilege revoked for the entire year if a student:
    • Gives his/her ID information to another student to access off-campus privileges
    • Participates in any illegal activities during the lunch period
