Club Description

Club Purpose: Fort Reno currently has one building left -- the Chesapeake House -- which is now abandoned and owned by NPS. Our club (CCC) is working with the NPS to turn the space at the Chesapeake House into a community center with interpretative exhibits to tell the story of Reno City. Service projects have included cleaning up the Chesapeake House, maintaining the exterior, running a food drive for needy families (in another part of town), and starting a dialogue to bring affordable housing into the neighborhood surrounding our school (Tenleytown, DC)

Club Objective
-To raise awareness about Reno City
-To help redesign the Chesapeake House as a community center to tell the Reno City story and serve as an education space
-To broaden the community's understanding of black land loss in Tenleytown

Proposed Activities

- Proposing several aspects of the redesign of the Chesapeake House
-Preparing for the dedication of the rehabbed building with its grand opening
-Using students as docents to tell the story of Reno City
