Principal’s Update for June 11, 2023
Greetings Jackson-Reed Community,
We are in the final weeks of the school year, and we want our students to continue to do their best as we close out this year. Students in grades 9, 10, and 11 should continue to attend their scheduled classes and submit their assignments by June 15. These actions will help students have a better end to the year.
As you know, due to the Canadian wildfires, the air quality in our region was poor last week, and we suspended all outdoor activities. Our students and staff did a fantastic job of responding to the situation and made the necessary adjustments to ensure everyone’s safety. As conditions improved on Friday, we resumed our regular operating procedures. We will continue to monitor the situation and make any necessary adjustments.
Last week we hosted many end-of-year celebratory events, such as our SciMaTech Capstone, Spring Choir Concert, and ESPY Sports Awards. These events were terrific to watch and showcased the talent of our students. They would not have been made possible without the support of our teachers and staff, so please join me in recognizing Ms. Krafft, Ms. McClure, Mr. Pierce, Ms. Ricks, and a host of others.
As I watched the events and heard members of our faculty and staff share about our students, I thought about how important it is for our students to establish a “trusted adult” in the building – someone they can go to for advice, encouragement, and help as they navigate high school. We are genuinely grateful that Jackson-Reed has many individuals serving as “trusted adults” for our students, and their connection with students helps us create a welcoming community.
