Principal’s Message: Sep 15, 2024

Greetings Jackson-Reed Faculty, Staff, and Community,

We are coming off a stellar week; last week was highlighted by our Back to School Night event.  There are very few times we bring our students, families, teachers, and staff from across all grade levels together.  It was a joy to hear a student sing, see JROTC present, and have our Academies showcase student projects.  I want to thank the many people who played a part in making the night a success and hope our families received valuable information from our incredible teachers on what our students will be engaged in throughout the year.

Today marks the start of Hispanic Heritage Month, which takes place from September 15th through October 15th.  We will celebrate and honor the diverse culture, contributions, and history of the Hispanic, Latino, and Latinx communities.  As we honor the diverse culture that is present within Jackson-Reed, you are invited to join us for our “Noche para Familias” event which takes place on Wednesday, September 18th at 5:00 p.m.

Lastly, as we begin the fourth week of school, students are settling into their routines, the beginning-of-year assessments are wrapping up and teachers are getting deeper into the content.  This is also the time that habits are starting to take shape.  Below are a few habits that can help students have a productive year:

  • Arrive early – Unexpected things happen on the way to school.  Encourage students to leave 10 minutes early to reduce the likelihood of being late.
  • Stay organized – There are a lot of due dates, assignments, and practices that students are managing.  Utilizing a planner or a calendar has had positive results for many students.
  • Ask for help – Students aren’t on their own when it comes to learning or navigating high school.  Our teachers and staff are available to explain content and offer perspectives on situations students need help with.

Wishing you another positive and productive week!
