Principal’s Message: October 15th, 2023

Greetings Jackson-Reed Community,

Jackson-Reed’s College Awareness Month has been off to a great start! First, I commend Ms. Wells for coordinating the PSAT/SAT last week for all grade levels; Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors took the digital-based PSAT, and Seniors took the paper-based SAT. The testing went well and we are grateful for your support with this new testing approach.

I’d also like to thank Mr. Reeves, our new College and Career Coordinator, for developing an all-encompassing College Exploration for our 9th-grade students. Groups of ninth graders were able to attend four nearby colleges and universities as well as the Smithsonian African American Museum. Ms. Levenson, our other College and Career Coordinator, also led a College Fair this past Thursday evening, which had a great turnout. Students and families who attended were able to interact and ask questions with college admissions representatives from over 15 colleges. If you were unable to attend the fair, our College and Career Center has daily visitors from various partners that guarantee all students access to post-secondary options.

This week, teachers and families will have more dedicated time to discuss student success during our Family Conferences on Thursday, October 19th. All Jackson-Reed families were given access to register and schedule for conferences this past Friday. If you need more information on accessing the scheduling platform, please click here. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to ask questions and partner with our teachers to plan for a successful end of Term-1.

I look forward to another positive and productive week!
