Principal’s Message: November 10, 2024
Greetings Jackson-Reed,
Last week, members of our nation displayed their civic engagement by casting their ballots in the presidential election. As students, teachers, staff, family, and community members of the largest and most diverse comprehensive high school in DC, we all have different points of view, and there are many things in common. As I visited classes and walked the building the day after the election, I was encouraged to see and hear how teachers and staff provided space for students to share their thoughts and reactions to the election. It reminded me that being a part of the Jackson-Reed community unites us, and our students and staff believe in our core value of respect. Let’s continue to grow together as a community as we provide our students with what they need to earn their diplomas.
Tomorrow is Veterans Day, and I’d like to thank our veterans for serving our country. As a reminder, the school will be closed on Monday so we all can show our appreciation to our Veterans. This week is also Psychologist Appreciation Week. As you may know, there is currently a shortage of mental health support in schools, and we are fortunate to have three Psychologists working with our students and staff. Please join me in thanking Dr. Vassasour, Ms. Dorvil, and Dr. Arrington for helping members of the J-R community improve their mental health.
Lastly, I’ll be hosting a Community Conversation on Tuesday, November 12th, at 5:30 p.m., and you are invited to attend. During that time, we will reflect on the first Term and discuss the focus areas of our Comprehensive School Plan.
Let’s make this a positive and productive week.
Tigers R.O.A.R.,
