The President shall be the principal executive officer of the PTSO and shall, in general, implement and supervise all of the business and affairs of the PTSO, subject, however, to the control of the Members and the Board, and of any duly authorized committee. The President shall preside at all meetings of the PTSO and at meetings of the Board, shall create standing and special committees and appoint chairs to them, shall coordinate the work of the Officers and committees, shall ensure that the annual PTSO report is filed with the District of Columbia government, shall be a member ex officio of all committees, and shall perform such other duties as may be appropriate

The Vice-President shall assist the President and perform duties delegated by the President or by the Board. In the event of the absence, disability, or vacancy in the office of the President, the Vice-President shall assume the duties of that office with notice given to the membership

The Secretary shall keep a record of all meetings of the PTSO and of the Board, provide minutes of the meetings to Members and the Board members, send notice of meetings to Members and the Board, prepare and send correspondence for the PTSO as directed by the Board or the President or as otherwise deemed appropriate by the Secretary, keep corporate record and the corporate seal, and perform other duties as delegated. In the absence of the Secretary, the President shall designate a substitute.

The Treasurer shall receive all funds of the PTSO; deposit funds as designated in the bylaws or by the Board; disburse funds as authorized; present a financial statement at each meeting of the Board and give a full report at the annual membership meeting of the PTSO; direct preparation of the proposed budget for the school year; perform other duties as delegated. In the absence of the Treasurer, the Assistant Treasurer acts in the place of the Treasurer unless otherwise directed by the President

The Assistant Treasurer works closely with the Treasurer assisting with keeping good accounts and reporting to the Board, as directed by the Treasurer, in order to learn the system and help ensure continuity, year over year. The Assistant Treasurer performs other duties on the board as needed.

The Communications Co-Chairs stay abreast of PTSO news and activities, manages the communications to the JRHS community. While not expected to write and own all of the PTSO content, the Communications Co-Chairs are responsible for ensuring and facilitating a regular flow of communications to the community including: 1) editing and publishing a PTSO email updates or newsletters; 2) managing the PTSO Constant Contact or other distribution platform account, including posting letters to the community on behalf of other PTSO co-chairs or showing them how to do it; 3) Ensuring the PTSO content on the JRHS website is up to date and relevant); 4) coordinating with the school staff for PTSO contributions to the Principal’s weekly newsletter

The Fundraising Co-Chairs lead the development and execution of an annual plan and strategy to raise funds for the PTSO through: 1) an annual call for donations from families prior to/at the start of the school year; 2) coordinating with Grade Reps to create a calendar of fundraising/community events as needed; 3) supporting Grade Reps to get volunteers at PTSO tables at the major family-related events in the school; 4) considering and planning other major fundraising events, throughout the year, coordinating with the Athletics Boosters and other major fundraising groups in the school

The Grants Co-Chairs manage the process for JRHS administrators, staff and students to access PTSO funds in the form of Grants. The Grants Co-Chairs 1) promote the availability of grants to teachers and staff at in-service days throughout the year; 2) receive, track and manage grant applications according to PTSO procedures; 3) report to the PTSO Treasurer/Assistant Treasurer on grant disbursements and accounting; 4) Report to the PTSO Board about incoming grant requests and secure Board approval as needed; and 5) Work with Grantees to ensure proper accounting and reporting back to the PTSO Board

The Hospitality Co-Chairs organize and serve meals for teachers/staff throughout the year, typically at a welcome breakfast when teachers return to school for in-service days, at the end of every advisory, and during teacher appreciation week. The Hospitality Co-Chairs also organize a teacher appreciation gift to staff/teachers at the end of the school year. The Hospitality Co-Chair may also be called on to provide supplies or food for other school events, and other special recognition weeks (e.g., during National School Counselor Week), as requested

Each grade level Rep has responsibility for:

1. Developing a monthly grade-specific update/email to families, highlighting any activities specific to that grade, or any particular achievements of students in that grade; and
2. Sending out grade-specific fundraising solicitations, in coordination with the Fundraising Co-Chairs

The overarching goal of the Senior High Alliance of Parents Principals and Educators (SHAPPE) is to support the families and citizens of DC in their desire to sustain and grow a strong quality publicly managed school system. The PTSO Rep will attend SHAPPE meetings and represent the PTSO, as well as provide reports back to the PTSO and the JRHS community.

The Local School Advisory Team (LSAT) is a group of elected and appointed members that exists for every DCPS school. The team consists of parents, teachers, non-instructional school staff, a community member, and in some cases students, to advise the principal on matters that promote high expectations and high achievement for all students. LSATs are a key lever to increasing transparency at DCPS and ensuring decisions affecting school communities are made collaboratively with the help of a diverse group of school stakeholders. While the JRHS community elects several people to serve on the JRHS LSAT, the PTSO also has one designated representative to the LSAT. This person attends LSAT meetings and follows DCPS developments on behalf of the PTSO and serves as a liaison between the LSAT from the PTSO.
