Media: How to Add & Manage Images & Files
All images and files that are uploaded to a WordPress site are stored in the Media Library. This can be accessed via the Dashboard and looks like the image shown below.
The majority of the time, you will be uploading images when you create a post via the Add an Update form. However, there are occasions when you will need to understand how to use the Media Library.
Adding Files
The primary one is if you want to upload a file such as PDF and provide a link to it. To do so you would do the following steps:
- Select Media->Add New on the Dashboard. You will see a screen like this:
- Drag and drop files or click the Select Files button. Select the file and wait while it process.
- You will then see a notification that your file has uploaded along with an option to Copy URL to clipboard.
- Do this and then create a link on your page using this URL to the file.
Note: You can directly add files to your page as well and choose to clean up the text that is being linked to so that it doesn't show a long file name.
