DCHAPP Application Open: Paid Medical Exploration Program
The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) Office of Diversity and Inclusion is now recruiting for the 9th DC Health and Academic Prep (DC HAPP) cohort. We are very excited to share this year’s DC HAPP 2024 application with you and encourage your students to apply. This year, we are moving back to our in-person summer experience! The program runs weekdays tentatively from Monday, June 24th through Thursday, July 19th, 2024. Applicants must be rising seniors (current juniors), have at least a minimum 2.0 GPA, plan to pursue a medical and/or healthcare profession, and identify as a student underrepresented in medicine.
DC HAPP is a pre-college program created to increase access to healthcare careers for students with identities underrepresented in medicine. We are seeking a diverse group of students who are determined to become medical professionals and will benefit most from mentoring and support on their journey. Sixteen DMV public and public charter school students are selected for the DC HAPP experience, led by medical students and medical providers. During the 4-week summer experience, the scholars learn about various healthcare professions, learn hands-on medical skills, create and publish public health projects, participate in college prep workshops, and network with GW students, faculty & staff. Students also receive a stipend for their participation in the program!
To provide a seamless application experience, students will apply electronically. Below is an outline of the DC HAPP Application Process:
The deadline to submit all application materials is Friday, February 2nd, 2024. Students will receive their application notification via email no later than Friday, March 8th, 2024. The following application forms are required for a complete student application:
