Academy Parent Board for SY 24-25
As we begin planning for SY24-25 we are excited to announce new opportunities for parents to support the Jackson-Reed Academies! We would love to have parent volunteers help us grow and improve the academy with a variety of roles. By participating in this, you are helping to support every Jackson-Reed academy student have the best educational experience and be career-ready. Thank you so much for your interest, please fill out this form by May 31st and you will be updated about selections the week of June 10th.
Each Academy director will have a group of parents helping them, so in the form please indicate which group of academies you would like to work with:
Regina McClure (Engineering, IT, Biomed)
Brandon Wims (Hospitality, AV Production, Graphic Design, Finance)
Tammy Lorenzo (AAA, Cybersecurity, and Global Studies (formerly WISP)
Role Requirements
- Complete a DCPS background check, including fingerprinting and TB test
- Ability to work with a team of students and collaborate with teachers
- Attend the Academies monthly working meeting

Volunteer Coordinator
(6–8 hours per month; 3 positions, 1 per director)
The Volunteer Coordinator will support a designated NAF Director (3) in recruiting and coordinating parent and community volunteers for academy events including:
- Annual Resume Writing Workshop
- Annual Interview Workshop
- Annual Academy Expo
- Club supervisors/support (Robotics)
Volunteer Coordinator Responsibilities:
- Recruit parents and community members to support monthly events
- Serve as POC for volunteers–communicate responsibilities, time commitment, instructions etc.
- Promote volunteer opportunities by coordinating with PTSO communication team and other channels
- Provide NAF director with volunteer lists and updates; support NAF director at events, as needed
Work-Based-Learning Coordinator
(6-8 hours per month; 9 positions-3 per director)
The WBL Coordinator will collaborate with the NAF Director, teachers, and students to organize monthly WBL events specific to each academy including:
- The Academy Speakers Series
- Fieldtrips
WBL Coordinator Responsibilities
- Attend planning sessions to identify monthly WBL opportunities
- Recruit parents, industry leaders, and community members to lead Speaker Series sessions
- Serve as liaison between speakers and NAF directors
- Assist in arranging and facilitating fieldtrips
Parent Academy Ambassador
(6–8 hours per month; 3 positions-1 per academy)
The Parent Academy Ambassador will support a designated NAF director by attending academy information sessions to answer parent questions, encourage participation in volunteer opportunities, and increase engagement with a broad, diverse group of parents across the Jackson-Reed community. The Parent Academy Ambassador will participate in events including:
- NAF Night
- Back to School Nights
- Academy Expos
- Academy info sessions
Parent Academy Ambassador Responsibilities
- Attend school-wide events to provide parent insights on the J-R Academies
- Coordinate academy information sessions for perspective parents
- Provide outreach to encourage participation and volunteerism with the goal of increasing the diversity of parent participation
Data Support
(weekly, flexible; 3 positions- 1 per director)
We are seeking three detail-oriented volunteers who are willing to support the entry of data into the NAFTrack and DCPS reporting sheets. No analyst skills required! This is an in-person commitment volunteering in the Jackson-Reed Academies Hub and can be scheduled weekly or bi-weekly.
