Student Support

Climate & Culture Department

The goal of the Climate & Culture Team is to help students interact with the learning environment and school community in positive, responsible and productive ways. A positive school culture fosters safety, promotes a positive academic, disciplinary and physical environment, and encourages trusting and caring relationships between adults and students. The outcome of a positive school culture is higher rates of attendance, graduation and achievement.

Multi-Tiered Systems of Support

MTSS at Jackson-Reed High School creates conditions for student success by leveraging data-informed systems and collaborative structures that foster holistic, integrated, and equitable supports. The MTSS Process asks for community stakeholders including students, parents, teachers, deans, counselors, and administrators to identify students who may benefit from short term specialized support to center academic, behavioral, or attendance growth.

This process is for students who are not already receiving specialized support through IEPs or 504 programs. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to AP Anthony with follow up questions at Ronald.Anthony@k12.dc.gov.

Step One

Stakeholders (parent, teacher, counselor, etc.) submit the referral form.  The Referral Form will include responses to the following:

  • Does this student need extra support with academics, behavior, or attendance?
  • What skills or issues do you believe the students may need extra support to master?
  • What information did you use to decide if this student may need extra support?
