Principal's Message

Jackson-Reed Community,

We hope you are enjoying your summer and look forward to the holiday weekend!

As we engage in summer plans, I want to thank you for your support and partnership throughout this past school year.

Next school year will quickly be upon us, so I want you all to be aware of some important dates before the 2024-25 school year begins. Below are the dates for our grade-level orientations. These orientations are intended for parents/guardians to meet our amazing Assistant Principals, understand the upcoming school year, and address any questions. Students are invited to attend, but please note that during the first week of school, our Assistant Principals will be hosting their grade level "Townhalls", where they will meet all of their students to discuss similar topics and reinforce day-to-day expectations.

Rising Senior families, please sign up for the "Senior Kickoff with School Counselors," the first round of one-on-one meetings to review graduation requirements. If you cannot attend, there will be other opportunities to meet with our senior school counselors at the beginning and middle of the school year.

Lastly, we hope all of our students are using their free time during the summer to participate in community service opportunities. In addition to our opportunities page, you can access district-wide opportunities here. As a reminder, our rising Seniors (Class of 2025) are required to have 75-hours to graduate, and Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors will need 100-hours! Use your time wisely.

Our building school hours over the summer are from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and if you need assistance with anything, please call our main office at (202) 282-0120.

Have a great July!

REMEMBERING COACH G & HONORING HIS LEGACY

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Coach G (Gus Anifantis) this past Friday. Coach G was not just a coach but a pillar of our basketball program, embodying the values of selflessness, passion, and dedication to every player he mentored. His impact on our community extended far beyond the court, touching the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Throughout his tenure with us, Coach G's commitment to our players and his infectious energy inspired everyone around him. He instilled in our teams a spirit of teamwork, perseverance, and love for the game of basketball. His legacy will continue to live on through the countless lives he has touched and the memories we hold dear.

In honor of Coach G's memory and his dedication to our program, we are establishing a scholarship fund. This fund will support a graduating senior basketball player each year who exemplifies the same qualities that Coach G embodied: selflessness, passion, and dedication to their teammates and the game.We invite you to join us in remembering Coach G and celebrating his life by contributing to this scholarship fund. Your generosity will help us ensure that his legacy continues to inspire future generations of Jackson-Reed Tiger athletes.

Please keep Coach G's family and loved ones in your thoughts during this difficult time.
